The color experts at Pantone have selected Radiant Orchid to be the color of the year for 2014. Pantone says, “A captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid emanates great joy, love and health.”
The release continues: Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. It is an expressive, creative and embracing purple—one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”
To my eyes, Radiant Orchid looks like a lush, beautiful color for a lipstick, nail polish or evening gown worn by a skinny model. But placing responsibility for joy, love, magical warmth and beguiling charm in 2014 is a hefty load for a color to carry. I like Pantone’s assessment that Radiant Orchid is blooming with confidence. That’s also a description of any guy caught wearing Radiant Orchid.
